Survey Reveals Glasses & Contact Lens Wearers Fear Laser Eye Surgery

Manchester England – 9 July 2002 – The results of a two year online survey show that the majority of glasses and contact lens wearers would like to stop wearing them. The survey, carried out by Verso Research Publishing, showed that 92% of those wanting to find an alternative to glasses and contact lenses had not had laser eye surgery and would not consider it. The overwhelming reason given was because of fear of the results. This broke down into a further two reasons, 1) the risk of serious damage to the eyes and 2) the possible side effects. Another major reason quoted in addition to the health worries was the cost of having the procedure carried out.

The main reasons given for wanting to stop wearing glasses and contact lenses were a) inconvenience and b) worry about the long-term health affects upon vision.

Stephen Wilk of Verso Research Publishing said, ‘The results of the survey show that people still very much fear the results of laser eye surgery.
